First full day on Maui! We wanted to go snorkeling so we got in the car and headed south. We ended up at La Perouse Bay, where we could see bright yellow Tang contrasting against the black lava benches just under the water. It looked like a tricky entrance and the surf was up from the south so we decided to backtrack to Dumps beach and snorkel there. Snorkeling was pretty decent, we saw a number of turtles. The neatest thing was hearing the humpback whales singing when we dived under water! But the cold water prevented us from staying in the water too long.

Once we were too cold to stay in any longer, we got out, dried a bit while eating our sandwiches, then drove up to Big beach for some hot sun and sand time! We set ourselves up, making sure to apply sunscreen every 2 hrs, and enjoyed baking in the sun a while, with the occasional cooling dip in the ocean. We eventually got hungry so headed back into Kihei for lunch at Da Kitchen. We got back to our hotel very sleepy and ready for a nap. Promptly fell asleep, I woke up an hour later, the sun about to set, so I went out to watch it go down. It took Mat a little longer to wake up but he eventually did. We ate our lunch leftovers, then headed for a night stroll along Keawakapu beach.
