Woke to bluebird skies once again. A large group of caribou, about 300 head, were grazing down river. We had a lazy day from our perch. It was super hot, in fact I ended the day with sunburned legs! Matt & Krista spent some time at the river to watch the caribou on the other side. Later Mat and I headed down to wash clothes and ourselves, Mat tossed a fly on his rod and tried a couple pools but no luck as the river is too full and fast. As we're making our way back up to camp, I spotted a critter upriver, light in color. It took us a while to determine it was a wolf instead of a lynx. Once it spotted us, it pulled a 180 and trotted away.

Caribou coming over the ridge |
We were packing up camp when we noticed the caribou on the other side of the river aggregate and run around. We didn't see anything pursuing them. Half the group ran downriver and out of sight beyond a bench. The other half ran to the river and crossed over to our side. We settled down and watched them make their way towards us. The wind was to our advantage until the big boys were about 50 yards away. At that point the wind shifted, they smelled us and turned right around.

Caribou crossing the Sheenjek river |
It was 7:00PM when we finally stopped watching the caribou below and started
walking back up the Valley of the Waterfalls. Thunder heads had built up all around us and started dropping their rain as we walked, we did hear one thunder boom. But the rain didn't last long. By 8:45PM we found a large, dry, flat campground right next to the river below the pass. There was much less snow up in the mountains than yesterday. Matthew called Kirk, great news: Weather is suppose to be just fine for a Jago River pick up on the planned date! A couple of caribou ran by camp while we ate dinner. Went to bed preparing ourselves for a push over the pass first thing in the morning.
