We crossed the international dateline and landed in Shanghai about 6PM local time. The sun had already set so we couldn't see much of the city. Shanghai airport has an interesting set up: the planes park on the tarmac and people offload onto a bus that drives you to the gates. When loading onto a flight, you check in, then load onto a bus and get driven out onto the tarmac to load the plane. Makes turn-around at the gates much faster since we don't have to wait for planes to be boarded before clearing away from the gate for the next plane. It's kind of intimidating though to be packed in a bus with lots of other people driving around with large aircraft taxing around at the same time. We boarded onto China Eastern Airlines. No cell phone use allowed during the entire flight, even in airport mode! And no personalized entertainment either, just TVs every few seats with Chinese prank shows on. But we were OK with that, we slept instead. Seats were pretty comfortable.
