We hit the road again on the early side, only four-hour drive to Davis but Berta and Gary won’t be home until later in the afternoon. We decided a good plan would be to cut off Hwy 80 at Truckee and take Hwy 89 along the west side of Lake Tahoe to Hwy 50 before continuing on to Davis. Most of the campgrounds & trailheads around the lake were still covered with snow but it was a beautiful drive. We parked at Emerald Bay overlook and walked down to the beach where we sat on the dock in the sun and ate a little snack, breathing the cool, fresh mountain air. After this quick rejuvenating break, we got back into the car and headed into Davis. The dogs were very excited to see us! We reorganized & repacked our gear to make room in the back of the car for the dogs while we waited for Berta & Gary to come home. We took them out for dinner at Tres Hermanas as thanks for watching the dogs. The dogs sure look like they had a great time; Barley laying out in the sun every morning and afternoon, Hops getting a daily walk with Kipper, both dogs having a real backyard to play in. Although they are happy to see us, they don’t seem too excited to leave.

The next day, we took off from Davis by 8:00am to visit Mat’s dad Jim in Woodland before making the final drive back to Portland. We had a quick visit over breakfast then hit the road. An uneventful trip back to Portland, getting home around 7:30pm. What a fun & memorable trip, and what a beautiful and comfortable house to come home to :)
