Greetings from Toad River, BC! The car started right up and we hit the road at 8 am. It was 4˚F and dark except for a faint glow on the eastern horizon. We stopped at Tim Horton's, the Canadian version of Dunkin Donuts. Rolled into Dawson Creek around 9:45 am, the temp getting down to -15˚F as we drove down onto the open plains. We ran a few errands in Dawson Creek and snapped a few photos of mile 0 of the Alaskan Hwy. We left town just as the sun came up over the horizon at 10:10am! Beautiful snowy Boreal forest between Dawson Creek and Ft. Nelson, roads alternating between completely dry and packed snow. Sunny clear skies, the temp got as high as 5˚F.

We reached Ft. Nelson at 2:45pm to gas up and reserve a room at Toad River inn. We left Fort Nelson just after 3pm as we watched the sun set. Even though the sun dropped below the horizon at 3:15pm, the light lingered for 2 hrs! Packed snow on the hwy, the scenery is amazing because we're heading up into the northern Rockies. Interestingly enough, as we climbed the passes, the temps would get higher, as high as 18˚F once, then drop again when we drove down the other side. We reached Toad River Lodge at 5:45pm. The dogs are more active today, we stopped for lunch and ran them a bit. Barley is finally accepting the cold and trots around smelling stuff instead of shivering and immediately trying to jump back into the car (like he's been doing the last few days).
