I wanted to try a real French omelet while in France so that's what we did this morning. We walked to the end of the block where there was a cafe selling a set breakfast of cheese or ham omelet, baguette, orange juice, and choice of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. Mat ordered the cheese omelet with coffee and I ordered the ham omelet with hot chocolate. I'm not a fan of omelets despite LOVING eggs cooked any other way - scrambled, fried, soft boiled, hard boiled, you name it! Except omelet. Mat thought a true French omelet would cure me of that. The omelet was delicious! Very light, not a huge amount of cheese, even on Mat's cheese omelet. The hot chocolate tasted very good but would have been better if it was hot instead of lukewarm.
After breakfast, we went back to the flat to make arrangements for our train ride to St. Jean Pied de Port tomorrow. Now it was time to go to the Louvre! We walked down, enjoying the flowers in the Jardin des Tuileries. It was about 1:00pm on a Saturday but we got through into the museum in less than 10 mins thanks to the Paris Museum Pass. We enjoyed the museum until its closing at 6:00pm. We saw paintings by Rembrant, Van Eyke, DaVinci, including the Mona Lisa, greek and Roman antiquities, including a few pieces by Michelangelo, Egyptian antiquities, and Mesopotamia antiquities including the oldest piece in the museum - a statue from Jordan over 9,000 years old!
It was a beautiful day as we stepped out of the museum; the greens were filled with locals sunbathing, picnicking, or playing bocce ball on the decomposed granite walking lanes. We found a shady spot to kick off our shoes and eat a snack, chatting and people watching. We noticed that terriers are very popular in Paris. We've seen at least a handful each day we've been here, and they're all really well behaved! I guess we need to get our next terrier from France! Eventually, we started our way home, stopping at the pastry shop on our block corner to pick up a baguette, two personal quiches, and a raspberry tart for lunch on the train tomorrow. Home-cooked dinner then to bed.
