Today is Mat’s birthday so he got to choose the plan for the day. He decided he wanted to check out Haleakala so we hit the road. Luckily it wasn't trafficky at all, driving up as the bikers were riding down. It was a sunny day up top but a thick hazy layer was settled on the ground so visibility near the horizon was poor. Haleakala crater was pretty neat but we didn’t have a whole lot of time for hiking so we walked a couple of scenic view trails and admired the view. It would definitely be neat to be up here after dark with all the stars.

After exploring the area, we headed back down, stopping at Ululani’s for some Shave Ice. Back at the motel for another nap, we slept until it was time to get ready for our birthday dinner reservation at Sarento’s on the Beach. We ordered seared ahi and salad, then an entre of snapper on pasta. We were going to forego dessert but they brought us out a birthday dessert on the house. Then they informed us that Berta & Gary paid for our dinner as a birthday gift for Mat. We were very surprised! Quite a nice birthday for Mat.
