Woke after another late night. Mat called Hotwire again, no updates with our flight home. After breakfast we set out for the train to Arashiyama in Kyoto. On our way to the train Shane gets a phone call from the Osaka branch of China Eastern Airlines. They are sending our bags in the post and they should be delivered tonight between 6 and 9 PM!!!! Oh my gosh how exciting!!! Unfortunately it means we have to cut our day in Kyoto very short but we can go back tomorrow. With that news, we felt a lightness in our step as we made our way to Arashiyama.

Arashiyama
It was a beautiful day in Arashiyama, slightly hazy but warm. We crossed Togetsukyo bridge and found a place to get food right away to keep our energy up. We walked along the streets and arrived at Tenryuji temple from the 1300s. We strolled through the gardens. They were beautiful and quite relaxing despite all the people. The fall colors weren't in full swing but definitely some trees here and there were orange or red. We exited through the north gate which put us right in the bamboo forest. We walked along the little path and swung back to the river. From there we climbed up the hill to the Monkey Park Iwatayama to see the wild Japanese macaque monkeys. There was a fantastic overlook over the city of Kyoto. We went into the little caged shed from which you can buy monkey snacks to feed the monkeys. They liked the banana more than the apple slices!

Back down the mountain, we stopped for soft serve ice cream. I got my favorite - green tea/vanilla swirl; Mat gets his favorite - cookies and cream; Shane got pumpkin, which was tasty, and Mari got sweet potato, which was freaking delicious! We got back to Shane's place at 5:50 PM and settled in to wait for our luggage to arrive. Mari and I napped while Shane and Mat played video games. It was 8:20PM before we heard a knock on the door; we were worried that it was getting too late and the luggage wouldn't show up. But the doorbell finally rang. We were so excited and relieved.... that is until we realized it was just my bag. Mat's bag was not sent. Oh well, at least we have our scuba masks and I could give Shane and Mari their gifts. We will call China Eastern Airlines in the morning to track down Mat's bag. Finally we were free to get dinner so we had sushi one more time. Now it's time for bed!

I love Japanese ice cream!!
