Landed in Bangkok at 1AM. The airport had beautiful wall gardens of orchids and ferns. The King's photo was displayed on most screens. A few of the stalls were setting up black and white decorations to signal mourning for his passing. We got through immigration just fine but found our luggage did not arrive. The airport attendant informed us our luggage will arrive in 24 hrs. Which is a bummer because our flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia, is in 20 hours and from a different airport. We were too tired to figure out a plan so went to the shuttle area. It was hot outside! 1AM and temps in the mid-80s! Unfortunately, all our shorts and sandals are in the luggage that won't be here until tomorrow.
Live flowers inside the Bangkok airport
The Best Western shuttle showed up eventually and we got in. But we got a firm talking to; apparently, we were to check in with a pink-jacketed representative at Airport Exit 5. We didn't know because they sent an email with this information a few hours ago, during our 20 hour fly day without internet access. But we got to the hotel, none the less. We were upgraded to the seventh floor with a 24 hr booking so we had the place until 2AM tomorrow! It was a nice hotel room. Mat drew a bath to relax and rinse off before bed.
Bangkok hotel room
I slept until 10AM but Mat slept until noon. We ordered room service and stayed in the room to research and change our vacation plans. We decided to spend the trip in Cambodia and get scuba certified in Sihanoukville. I called Air Asia to postpone our arrival flight into Cambodia but since it was less than 48hrs they wouldn't let me. I switched our return flight to the 26th and we booked a flight to Phnom Penh for Monday. We'll spend tomorrow checking out downtown Bangkok.
Delicious room service
Around 6PM we stepped out to find a 7-Eleven but came across a big market. We bought some street foods for dinner. The fruit here is AMAZING, especially the papaya, watermelon, and cantaloupe. We walked back to our air-conditioned room to eat and relax. Time for a nap, gotta wake up in the middle of the night to retrieve our luggage!
