Woke up early. Mat called Hotwire and got our tickets figure out. We are flying out of Osaka tomorrow at 4:30PM for an over night layover in Shanghai instead of our too short layover tomorrow morning resulting in a missed connection. We also contacted China Eastern Airlines Osaka desk; with the extra time in Shanghai we're going to be able of pick up Mat's bag, which is still in Shanghai! Apparently it is our portable speaker with its lithium battery that has the flight security all in a huff, refusing to send it to Osaka or mail it back to the U.S.

Walking in Kyoto
We ate pancakes Shane made, then went on our way to Kyoto. At the end of the line, we stopped at an omurice restaurant for the rice omelets. After lunch we made our way to Ginkaku-ji. We dealt with a few more phone calls from the airlines about our luggage while in the restaurant, while walking to the temple, and while walking through the temple gardens. Eventually we got a plan in place. We're to mention our lost luggage when we check in for our flight to Shanghai tomorrow. They're going to give us papers that we are to take to the luggage inquiries office in Shanghai. They should give us our bag then... probably only to get lost for the flight home!

Ginkaku-ji garden was as beautiful as I remembered and we took our time strolling through it. Even though the day started cloudy and cold, the clouds were starting to break up and the sun peaked out. There was a smattering of Koya, or fall coloring, but not nearly as much or as intense as it will be in another week. After Ginkaku - ji we strolled the Philosopher's Path, very relaxing in the sun. It was still a 45 minute walk from the end to Kiyomizu - dera so we decided to get a taxi. The taxi dropped us off at a street called Three Year Slope, an atmospheric street lined with shops. We timed our arrival at the Kiyomizudera deck during sunset, which was a little obscured by clouds on the horizon but still beautiful. We finished perusing the grounds as it started to get dark. We walked all the way into downtown Kyoto to the shopping district. Mari needed to get some socks and they were having a deal of three pairs of socks for $10 so I bought some for myself.

It was dinner time so we stopped at a Katsu place nearby. we waited in line for a long time but it was worth the wait. Delicious tempura chicken with delicious rice and amazing potato salad - like German potato salad but without the mustard, and miso soup. The tea tasted interesting, almost had a tobacco flavor to it but it still tasted good. We hit up Baskin Robins for dessert on our way to the train. We rode the train until Fushimi Inari shrine where we walked the shrine grounds after dark. The place is supposedly haunted after dark. We only walked the first 200 meters, it was very neat and kind of creepy. Long train ride home and time for bed!
