Man, it's nice to sleep in an air-conditioned room again! Our taxi was waiting for us outside the hotel at 9AM. We used the same company to drive us the nine-hour drive from Sihanoukville to Siem Reap. The boat ride from Phnom Penh sounded interesting but A) it sounded dangerous without much safety regulation or escape routes if the boat were to go down and B) it would require us to spend a night in Phnom Penh when we just wanted to get to Siem Reap. So we decided to spend the money to get where we wanted to go faster.

Cambodia Countryside
We drove from 9AM to 5:30PM from Sihanoukville, through Phnom Penh, to Siem Reap. We stopped to get gas, natural gas that is pumping into the underside of the vehicle. North of Phnom Penh we stopped at our driver's sister's place and got some lychee drinks, then stopped again at a Kralan cart on the side of the road for some Kralan: sticky rice with coconut milk and red beans cooked inside a bamboo stalk. Kind of like a Cambodian burrito. It was delicious and the girls were entertained by our struggle to open it properly. The scenery on the road trip was beautiful, lots of green grassy fields lit up in the sun with dark storm clouds beyond. It was a nice ride.

When our driver pulled into Siem Reap, he met one of his buddies that drives a tuk-tuk and knows the area to pick us up and bring us to our hotel. He was a nice fellow and we decided to hire him for our driver around the Siem Reap area starting tomorrow. We checked into our room at the Rose Apple Hotel and settled in. After we were settled we went out and walked around Pub Street but it was too loud and too touristy for us to enjoy. Lots of hawking for tuk-tuks, restaurants, etc so we found ourselves a little Indian place for dinner. As we were eating dinner, we noticed an advertisement next door for Brunty's, Cambodia's only hard cider producer....hmm, we'll have to try that tomorrow! We walked back to the hotel, showered, and fell asleep to large flashes of lightning in the sky!
