We finished up a 5 night work week, had one night off to clean and pack with a nap break before we left at 7:45 AM for our flight to Maui. It was a fast flight with the wind pushing us, only 5.5 hours. We landed at 3:12 PM and on our way out of the terminal we ran into our buddy Ian. He, Heather, and their 2 kids just landed from PDX and are here for a week. Small world! We waited in line for the bus to Budget Car Rental, then waited in line at the Budget Car rental for a long while. We didn’t get out of there with our rental car until 5:30PM! But we did go out with a convertible camaro. We headed down to Kihei, rushing to get to a beach to catch the sunset but also starving since we hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast. We swung through McDonald’s drive through, parked down at our hotel, and walked to the beach for a little picnic just in time to watch the sun go down.

After the beautiful show was over we checked in then headed over to the grocery store to stock up on drinks and food. We unpacked our car, got our things settled into the room, then headed out for a nice night stroll along Keawakapu beach. Of course Mat had to jump in for some night swimming. I eventually joined him but it wasn’t long before I got cold so we headed back to the hotel. The water is a good 10 degrees colder in Febuary than it is in September when we’re usually in Hawaii!

The whales are very active this time of year!
