We checked out at 11:45AM and our tuk-tuk driver took us to the airport. We arrived three hours early just to find they don't open the ticket counter until two hours prior to flight. It seems ridiculous considering it's an international flight and we have to get through customs. But it is a tiny airport so I think it'll be fine. We did get through to the back with 30 minutes until boarding so we grabbed bite to eat. There were more shops back here so I wander through and finally found a pair of earrings I like. Made out of light ceramic from Cambodian clay, made in Cambodia by a company that works to relieve poverty with skills development. It's a replica of a medallion found on Nagas throughout the temples. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about them.
Bangkok from the air |
The plane ended up being 20 minutes delayed but we made good time into Bangkok. It was really easy for us to find the free DMK-BKK shuttle outside of airport Exit 6, we just showed the bus driver our e-itinerary for tomorrow's flight and off we went. We got to BKK in just over an hour with the traffic. We collected my bag from the bag storage area and found our shuttle to the Aranta hotel. It was a nice hotel atmosphere-wise: two pools, hot tub, a nice walkway along the river. But they nickel and dime you every chance they get. No credit card fee if paying for just a room but 10% fee for purchasing food at the restaurant and for the airport shuttle, which is not free - 2OO baht each way! We ate some dinner at the hotel and went to bed. We have to catch the 6AM shuttle back to the airport tomorrow!
