August 20, 2021 - Back on the PCT!

We've been knocking out some of the sections of the PCT we had to skip in 2017 due to wildfires and snow. We've been going slow and steady, only out for two nights at a time to keep our pack weight down, and calling it a day once my hip starts feeling tired, which started at 15 miles and increased to 18 miles by the end of our section hiking. The unexpected difficult part of hiking shorter-mile days is that we get into camp with hours of daylight left. But we enjoyed being outside and distancing hiking again! We finished the 85 miles of Oregon that was closed due to the 2017 Whitewater Fire over six days. We also hiked 136 miles in California from Sonora Pass to Donner Pass over eight days. We couldn't finish the final 115 miles from Donner Pass to Buck's Lake since the PCT through Feather River is on fire and the whole Tahoe/Sierra Buttes area is choked out with smoke. We'll come back to finish it at another time, I'm just so excited at the prospect that I get to actually finish my PCT hike!!
