December 10, 2018 - Progress update #3

Did a big hike today. Approximately nine miles with some elevation changes at the beginning and end. But six miles was on sand and beach rock. The uneven terrain irritated my hip but I was able to complete the whole thing. I took 800mg of ibuprofen when we got back and the pain was gone by the next day. I'm starting to feel more optimistic about thru-hiking this summer. A few things do have me cautious: 1) the fact that thru-hiking will have me walking day after day. I won't have the rest days between hiking days like I do now. 2) last June the pain had gone completely away but came back after hiking a 15-mile day. Granted, my therapist believes that the two pain-free weeks was not enough time for complete recovery of the injury and that I reinjured myself. But still, I'm worried that I will get to a completely pain-free state and that it will come back after a few days of walking.
