December 11, 2019 - Fourth post-op appointment with surgeon

Six months out from surgery and I feel amazing! I'm running three miles a couple times per week and I was able to do an eight-mile hike last week. Although it was a completely flat hike and I didn't carry any weight and my legs were tired by the end of the hike, I didn't have any pain! That is the longest I've been able to hike pain-free in the last 18 months! Carrying weight causes pain in my hip, it's a different pain in that I feel it immediately instead of a few hours later. I can carry around 5-7 lbs for three miles if I walk slowly. I talked with Dr. Hagen about this, she is not concerned and says to keep cautiously increasing my carrying load over the next six months and listen to my body for feedback. She also cleared me for all activity as long as I listen to my body and not advance my activities too suddenly. She asked me what long-distance hike we'll be doing this summer and boy do I feel like it is possible!
