January 30, 2020 - Back to see the surgeon

Well, 10 days of rest and ibuprofen didn't provide much relief. The pain feels different though: painful if I sit for too long, painful if I walk more than three miles. The best pain relief I get is if I move in small increments throughout the day. But I'm usually in pain at the end of a shift at work unless I'm sitting as triage nurse.  Thinking about the mechanism of injury and the characteristics of my pain, I wonder if I didn't sustain a small hairline fracture of my femoral head or, more likely, a bone contusion. Unfortunately, a bone contusion can take anywhere from two months to two years to fully heal. Since I'm a month out already without improvement, I'm thinking my injury is going to take a while to heal. So I made the appointment with Dr. Hagen to get the corticosteroid injection, anything to help speed up the healing process and get me back to the point where I can at least work without pain.

When I saw Dr. Hagen, she took an x-ray but was unable to rule out stress fracture. She doesn't want to give a cortisone injection if there is a stress fracture so she wrote an order for an MRI. I'm pretty happy to be getting an MRI since it'll show everything: bone contusion or stress fracture, muscle or ligament tear, the condition of my FAI repair. Luckily I was able to schedule an MRI for Wednesday so I will get answers soon!
