May 3, 2019 - Corticosteroid/anesthetic injection into the hip joint
I had the steroid/lidocaine hip injection today. I was really nervous about having a long needle inserted into my joint. But it really wasn't bad at all! The joint capsule containing joint fluid actually extends past the socket and down the upper femur shaft. So the needle was inserted into my upper thigh rather than at the groin. I only felt one initial pinch, the rest of the time I didn't feel any needle. My groin pain was pretty inflamed after all the sitting and manipulation tests yesterday (basically eight total hours of sitting with driving to and from airports, sitting at the airport, two-hour-long flight, etc followed by the manipulation tests by the doctor) rating about a 5 out of 10. With the injection, the doctor was able to do the manipulation test without any pain. I still felt pressure and some pain in my groin as I spent an hour driving home, rating about a 3 out of 10. But later that afternoon the pain came on pretty intensely, rating about a 7. I took 800mg of ibuprofen twice, once in the afternoon, another before going to sleep. I also iced the area.
Here's the rest of the week:
Saturday, May 4: I woke my pain was about a 1 or 2. But as the day wore on, and six hours of sitting (hour drive to the airport, an hour sitting at the gate, two-hour flight, 1.5-hour drive home) it was pretty inflamed, rating about a 6, and I took another dose of ibuprofen.
Sunday, May 5: Once again woke without much pain, rating 1 or 2. I had work today, over 13,000 steps at work. Pain rating at the end of the day was 5, took another dose of 800mg ibuprofen.
Monday, May 6: Woke without much pain, 1/10. Sitting throughout the day, ended the day with pain 5, took another dose of 800mg ibuprofen.
Tuesday, May 7: 3-mile flat walk. Back to baseline of constant 3/10 pain
Wednesday, May 8: Worked, baseline pain.
Thursday, May 9: rested. Back to baseline. Consistently feeling pain/knot 3/10. Afraid to do vigorous activity and cause more damage.
