September 25, 2018 - Physical Therapy update #1

Making good progress with physical therapy. The therapist recommended I buy a brace for my adductor muscle, which I bought. Although the way they have it on the picture isn't supportive of my adductors. Instead, I wear it like shown below. This brace has really helped reduce pain while at work, I've been able to reduce the frequency that I take Ibuprofen. My therapist wants me to stick to level walking but seems optimistic I'll be able to incorporate elevation changes by mid-November and I'll be able to thru-hike next summer. Very exciting news for me to hear! She's having me doing stretches twice a day at home. I'm able to walk three miles slowly of flat terrain while wearing my brace without pain. And I'm able to make it through a shift without pain as long as I'm wearing my brace and avoid pushing gurneys in the hospital. Right now at PT, the therapist does some massage on the injury to break up scar tissue, then I do more stretches and a few minor exercises, followed by 10 minutes of icing and TENS stimulation. I'm always sore later in the day so I take Ibuprofen and ice the area at home. But I usually am feeling better the next day.
